Media Visual Arts
Farida is a British-born artist based in Essex, UK who has been painting for six years in various mediums under the name of ‘Umm Aisha of Awakening Art’.
A short course on Islamic Calligraphy led Farida to paint traditional Arabic scripts and calligraphy balanced by contemporary abstract design. Farida’s passion for art informs her expression of the awakening sense of spiritual emotion and tranquillity she feels through Islam. Her main inspiration comes from the Qur’an and she hopes her art conveys a constant reminder of the soul’s journey from darkness to light. Her vision is to portray Islam in its true form, as a genuine faith of peace and love, so often diminished and misrepresented by Islamic extremists, purposely narrow media articles as well as political propaganda or agendas.
Currently Farida is studying a BA in Fine Arts at Sir John Cass School of Art in London, after receiving a distinction for her Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, from Chelmsford College’s Art School. Although these courses have helped Farida to perfect her techniques, she believes ‘painting from the heart’ is the source of her pieces’ depth of meaning.
